NI Knights crowned Irish Wheelchair Basketball 16/17 League Champions

13th May 2017

The final round of the Irish Wheelchair Basketball League took place today, May 13th in Dundalk, where NI Knights were crowned league champions. The ten team league which began in October 2016 entailed 90 games and NI Knights finally captured the title on the final day having lost only once during the season. On the day NI Knights needed victory over Ballybrack Bulls to secure the title for the first time since the league restructured in recent years.

Credit to Killester who pushed Knights all the way to the final day also. Killester, who beat Fr Mathews today, also only lost one game throughout the season, which was to Knights, however when the accumulated scores of their head to head games were taken into account Knights had a superior difference, meaning they were crowned champions.

The final day was also significant in terms of final league standings which decide the placings of the teams for the perpetual Cup Finals on May 27th. The fixtures and times of the respective Cup Finals programme will be confirmed in the following days.

As the league season concludes, we congratulate the League Champions for 2017 – NI Knights.
