This coming weekend, on Saturday May 16th, Gormanston College in Co Meath, will play host to the three Cup finals, which are played in honour of former members of the organisation.
The Ger Larkin Cup will feature the two teams who finished at the base of the league table, Dundalk Ravens and Shannonside Stealers from Athlone. Whilst not where either team will have wished to finish in the league, the chance to close off the season with some silverware will appeal greatly. Dundalk Ravens will be aiming to retain the cup they won in 2014 whereas Shannonside Stealers, who only formed last season, will be looking look to win their first piece of silverware.
The Walsh/Greene Cup which will comprise of the 4 teams ranked 5th to 8th in the League, will see Dublin teams Killester and Ballybrack Bulls compete for a place in the final against either Clonaslee or NI Knights from Belfast. These will both be hotly contested semi finals and whilst Killester and Clonaslee will be slight favourites respectively, don’t be surprised to see any of the teams inscribed on the Cup.
The Paddy Byrne Cup will see the top of the table teams face off for glory and a new name on the Cup for the first time in 4 seasons. Limerick Scorpions and Fr. Mathews will meet in the first semi final for the right to play either Swifts Left Bank from Kilkenny or Titans Wheelers from Galway. These games promise to be enthralling as Limerick, the Swifts and Fr. Mathews were locked together for much of the league season proving there is little between the teams.
The action starts in Gormanston at 10am, admission is free and support is very welcome. The schedule for the day can be found here.
