Britney Arendse and Nicola Dore will be aiming for strong performances and to progress in their respective world rankings as they compete in Kazakstan at the World Para Powerlifting Championships this week.
Nicola Dore competed in the 61kg category and lifted 67kg leaving her 7th out of 10 competitors.
Brintney Arendse is due to compete in the 73kg category this Wednesday the 17th (local time) in a field of 19 other competitors. Britney experienced a tough introduction to the competition earlier in the week failing to record a legal lift in the junior competition. The focus will quickly turn to Wednesday where another strong performance, which Britney has delivered many times previously, will be the main aim.
There was some good news for Britney as she departed for Kazakstan as she learned she was upgraded to a Bronze medal at the 2018 World Para Powerlifting Asia-Oceania Open Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan following the decision by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to suspend United Arab Emirates powerlifter Haifa Alnaqbi for six months for committing an anti-doping violation.
