All ten teams competing in the Irish wheelchair Basketball League will converge on the IWA, Clontarf on May 23rd for what will be the climax of the league season.
In what has been the most competitive wheelchair basketball season since the new format was introduced a number of years ago, the 2014/2015 league title will be presented to Limerick Scorpions if they can overcome the Dundalk Ravens in their final game of the league campaign. The Scorpions beat Swifts Left Bank from Kilkenny in a top of the table clash just two weeks ago, a result which left the destiny of the league in their own hands.
Scorpions will be strong favourites against the Ravens however in the event Limerick lose and Swifts Left Bank beat Killester then the title will go to Kilkenny.
Should Limerick Scorpions justify their odds and ultimately win the title, this will be a remarkable success story given they finished in the bottom half of the league last season. Throughout the season Limerick were very consistent with only one loss and with strength in depth in their squad and leading players like Joe Hargrowe, Asling Duhig and Tiarnan O Donnell they have been formidable.
The 2014/2015 season saw the league grow from 8 to 10 teams from the previous season and with that a great challenge to run off a hectic schedule of fixtures. Congratulations to all ten teams who competed in this season’s league. As ever, next season, the challenge for each of the teams will be to attract more players and become even more competitive.
